BREWER, Maine – Barney and Charlotte Thompson have been named the Brewer Citizens of the Year, and were honored this Friday evening at the Brewer Auditorium. Mayor Jerry Goss recognized the couple during the intermission of the Hometown Band’s Brewer Day’s concert.

The Thompson’s were nominated for their extensive involvement in the Brewer community and their leadership roles in making Brewer a better place to live.

While Barney has a 52 year length of service with the Brewer Kiwanis Club and Charlotte being a member of the Brewer Garden and Bird Club since 1991; the public has also become very accustomed to seeing them together in the Brewer Historical Society. Charlotte is past president, serves on the board of directors, and was Clewely Museum Chair. Barney spent numerous hours of his time refurbishing the outside of the Historical Society’s barn and museum. They have both assisted with 4th of July events and Brewer Days activities, served as host and hostess of museum events, and have worked on numerous other committees.

Barney also served on the Brewer Conservation Commission during the late eighties and early nineties. Charlotte’s involvement with the Garden and Bird Club included serving as treasurer and head of civic development.

The Thompson’s community minded spirit is reflected in their unselfish commitment of time and energy. As one individual recently stated about the couple: “Barney and Charlotte do everything!”
