The City of Brewer has created a fully integrated Solid Waste Program for all its residents to use as a method to safely and economically dispose of all their solid waste related items. In 2010 and 2011, two important programs were created and implemented by the City to help offset increased costs in solid waste disposal. The Zero Sort recycling program started on July 1, 2010, and has been a huge success. The PAYT program started on January 1, 2011, and has been successful as well. Additionally, on January 1, 2011, the City started picking up the Zero Sort recycle material twice per month. A description of both the PAYT and Zero Sort programs are discussed below in Curbside Refuse Collection and Curbside Recycle Collection sections. The Brewer Solid Waste Program was developed to comply with Maine Department of Environmental Protection solid waste regulations and meet all of the disposal needs of our Brewer residents.
Provide a fully-integrated inexpensive solid waste program that meets the needs of all Brewer residents and businesses and complies with all applicable environment laws.
