After School Program – Like No Other!
The After School Program offers many activities and new experiences for your child. Grades K – 4 are held at the Brewer Auditorium, while Grades 5 & 6 are held at the Brewer Community School.
Preschool basketball: This program is designed to introduce youngsters age 4 & 5 to the game of basketball while learning skills such as socializing, teamwork and sportsmanship. Children will learn new skills and play basketball focused games.
Instructional Basketball: Non-competitive program for students in grades K – 2 with emphasis on introducing basic basketball skills such as dribbling, passing, defense & shooting in a fun and positive atmosphere.
Adult Open Gym Basketball: Pick up games held on Sunday evenings from 5:30-7:30 PM at the Brewer Auditorium. $2 fee per session beginning January 4th.
Tee Time Tune Up: Get your golf swing ready with this late winter primer. Players of all levels can enjoy instruction while they get their golf swings ready for the upcoming season. PGA professional Mark Hall heads up this program and offers a multitude of swing tips and top notch instruction. Class will be held beginning in early March. Cost will be $30 for residents and $35 for non-residents. Class size will be limited to ten participants. Pre-registration is required.
Indoor Golf Net Rentals: Keep your swing in shape this winter while hitting in our indoor golf net. Call ahead to reserve your tee-time. $2.00 for a half hour. The golf net will become available January 5.
Wake-up Volleyball: Drop in pick-up games on Tuesday & Thursday mornings at 10:00 a.m. $2.00 per time, beginning the first of November.
Open Gym: Drop in pick-up games on Tuesday evenings from 7:00 – 9:00 p.m. $2.00 per time, beginning the first of December.
Men’s Volleyball League: December 11 – February 26. Adult men’s volleyball league with scheduled league that promotes fun, competitive games.
Youth Karate: Instructor Gary West will lead participants through progressive classes introducing Goju Karate Do. Introductory classes are a great way to improve participants’ self confidence, self control and respect while having fun.
Adult Karate: Improve your self control, confidence, awareness and respect, all while getting into shape with Instructor Gary West.
Winter Walkers: Enjoy the warmth of the Brewer Auditorium this winter to exercise and improve your health and meet new friends. The Auditorium will be open from 6:30 a.m. – 9:00 a.m. on weekday mornings. No charge.
Adult Co-ed Pick-up Pickleball: Pickleball is one of the fastest growing sports in the country, enjoyed by players of all ages and skill levels. The auditorium gymnasium is being made available this winter on Mondays from 10:30 AM – 1 PM and fee is $2.
Adult Fitness Class: This new program provides an energizing workout that is perfect for all fitness levels and will enhance your overall health and well being with aerobic and conditioning routines. Participants should bring an exercise mat with them.
Older Adult Exercise Class: Older adults who are looking to improve their strength, flexibility and cardiovascular fitness will enjoy this class for the socialization as well as the health benefits.
Adult Yoga: Join certified Kripalu Yoga Instructor Bunny Barclay. Classes are designed to improve strength, flexibility, and balance, and to increase the minds ability to focus and relax through self awareness. Class format will also include postures and guided relaxation/meditation. Participants should bring a yoga mat with them.
Adult Zumba with Tammy Smith: This fitness class is accompanied by upbeat international music that incorporates a variety of dance styles including salsa & calypso as example. Participants of all ages & fitness levels enjoy its energizing workout with toning and sculpting in a fun and invigorating atmosphere. Current session is offered on Tuesday and Thursday eveings from 5:30-6:30 PM, and Saturday mornings from 9-10 AM.
Senior Citizen’s Club: The Brewer Senior Citizen’s Club meets regularly on Thursdays throughout the year at the Brewer Auditorium in the Seniors Center. Guest speakers, pot lucks, weekly card games, and trips provide local seniors the opportunity to socialize and stay active. For more information, contact us at Parks and Rec at 207.989.5199.
Preschool Fun Time: This program is designed to offer parents and youngsters a large play area where they can participate in games of their choice. Recreational equipment is supplied to encourage youngsters to development physically and to socialize with other children. Wednesdays, from 10 -11:30 AM.
Ski & Snowboard Lessons at Hermon Mountain: Program includes four 1hour lessons, free time, rental equipment, instruction & supervision and rental equipment. Transportation is the responsibility of the participant.
Youth In Motion: Youth in Motion is a program for children and young adults who have a disability and want to get together with others who have a disability to play games and sports in a wheelchair. Parents, friends and siblings are also encouraged to join in. Program offered in cooperation with Alpha One.
Sunday Open Gyms: Enjoy the Brewer Auditorium with pick-up basketball and free shooting time for individuals or the whole family. Schedule is as follows:
Family Open Gym: 12:00 p.m. – 1:30 p.m.
Grade 5 – under: 1:30 p.m. - 3:00 p.m.
Grade 6 – 12: 3:00 p.m. - 4:30 p.m.
North Pole Calling: The Brewer Parks & Recreation Department has once again made arrangements with the North Pole to have Santa contact youngsters with holiday greetings. Special invitations will be available in December. Click here for registration form.
Breakfast with Santa: Join us for a morning of juice, donuts, craft activities, giveaways and a visit from the big Elf himself. Parents are encouraged to bring their cameras!
Brewer Hometown Band Holiday Concert: Enjoy an evening of festive holiday music as Brewer’s own Hometown Band plays all of your holiday favorites. The Hometown Band is sure to get concert goers of all ages in the holiday spirit with a wide variety of holiday favorites, treats and door prizes. Come hear one of the area’s largest and best hometown bands.
MRPA – Maine Red Claws Hot Shot Basketball: Join us as we join the Maine Recreation & Parks Association & the Maine Red Claws , Maine’s own professional basketball team and affiliate of the Boston Celtics, for Hotshot Basketball. This is a skills competition that involves shooting from five “hotspots” in three one minute rounds. Winners will move on to regional & state competitions. State finals will be held prior to a Red Claws game in Portland.
Father Daughter Valentine Dance: Join us for this much anticipated annual event as girls in grades K – 6 and their guest will enjoy an evening of music, dancing and treats as they spend this special time together. Watch for registration materials to be released in early January. This event sells out early every year so don’t delay in purchasing your tickets.
